So it’s time for another chapter! Chapter 87 starts with the long-awaited reunion (sorta) of Tsubaki and Kyouta. We find out that they’ve been apart for only two months, but it seemed like eternity. As Kyouta’s standing in the doorway of the class, his eyes meet Tsubaki’s. Quickly, he averts his gaze and starts chatting with other classmates. Tsubaki is stressed, thinking that of course, he’d avoid her…Since it was her fault that he got in the accident in the first place. Click link to read further!
Nishiki comes up to Kyouta and cheerfully (almost too cheerfully) smiles and tells him to go sit down in his designated seat. Kyouta’s wondering why he seems so riled up, when he looks up and sees Tsubaki’s face, twisted as if she’s trying hard to hold back tears. Kyouta sits down at his seat, which is next to Tsubaki’s, and Tsubaki isn’t sure what to say or do, when Kyouta speaks up and asks the teacher if he can listen to today’s lecture since he has no plans.
Tsubaki blushes when she hears this, as he’ll be sitting next to her during the lecture. The teacher tells Tsubaki to share her textbook with Kyouta. Tsubaki hurriedly takes out her books and puts them in the middle toward Kyouta, but Kyouta doesn’t say a word nor does he look her way. Tsubaki’s dejected by this…She pushes over her notebook right in front of Kyouta, and Kyouta sees that she wrote him a note: “I’m so sorry…If Kyouta gets held back a year because of me…I’m so, truly sorry.” Finally, Kyouta glances over at Tsubaki and sees that she’s extremely scared and stressed about how he’s going to react, if at all, to her note. He takes out one of Tsubaki’s pens from her pen case and writes her a note back: “Don’t worry, I’m not staying back a year…It was a close call, though. Anyway, our seats are next to each other again.” Tsubaki’s surprised that Kyouta can write so well only a short while after he took of his cast on his arm. She realizes that Kyouta has been trying very hard to get better while Tsubaki has completely fallen off the bandwagon in that regard…
Kyouta glances over at Tsubaki again and sees her profile…He then writes in the note: “Congrats on your debut as a model.” Tsubaki is confused and so Kyouta says out loud, “Mote-Kawa Arrange,” which means, “Hot & cute hairstyle.”
Tsubaki is shocked when she realizes and abruptly gets up out of her seat and asks him if he’s seen that magazine?! The teacher quickly tells her to be quiet and to sit back down. Tsubaki is embarrassed and sits back down, then Kyouta passes her another note, “I didn’t know you were the type to do those kinds of things. I guess in the short while we didn’t see each other, you changed.”
Tsubaki reads the note and hurriedly tries to clear the air, and furiously starts to write a loooong note back, stating that she was tricked by the stylist and she herself had no idea that they were going to feature her in a magazine…etc. Kyouta’s in SD-form and shocked that her explanation is so long, LOL. He then writes back, “But you looked so happy when they took the picture.”
Tsubaki looks a bit at a loss for words and she thinks a bit on how to put this in writing. She then reminisces about that day when Hananoi styled her hair and took her to the photo studio to get her photographed.
Tsubaki’s extremely unhappy about the turn of events right after she got her hair styled and is wondering why they are taking pictures of her and why she had to put on a new dress and have her makeup done. Hananoi tells her that she really doesn’t know anything (this pissed her off, LOL) and that in order to properly showcase the hairstyle, it’s imperative that the “whole package” is also perfect. Tsubaki thinks about this for a while and realizes that what Hananoi’s saying is true. She then tries to smile, but it comes out completely creepy & dark! Then Hananoi sees the Tiara Link-brand bracelet that Tsubaki has on her wrist and asks her about it. Tsubaki’s expression immediately changes and she smiles just thinking about Kyouta…Then, finally, the photographer is able to take really good pictures of Tsubaki and this is why Tsubaki was photographed so beautifully.
Kyouta blushes a bit when he reads how it all went down. The last line states that even now, she’s still wearing the bracelet…Kyouta looks over at Tsubaki and sees her exposed wrist…And indeed she has the bracelet on. Kyouta then reaches over and puts his hand over Tsubaki’s…But with a notebook page on top. Tsubaki blushes, then realizes that Kyouta wrote on the page, “What about your future plans?”
Tsubaki immediately freezes as a dark expression washes over her. Kyouta finally speaks up after seeing her expression change, and tells her not to hurry…He’ll always wait for her.”
Class is now over and Kyouta is leaving…As he’s by the door, he looks back at Tsubaki and mouths, “Do your best.” Tsubaki finds renewed hope after her encounter with Kyouta, and we see her tying up her hair in a high ponytail. She tells herself that she’ll definitely try her best.
In the next scene, we see Miho looking around for Tsubaki in the class. She asks Haru if he’s seen her…And Haru says that she left as soon as the bell rang (with great hurry, too). Miho is a big dejected because she wanted to ask Tsubaki how everything went with Kyouta…But Haru told her not to worry, since Tsubaki seemed more positive & cheerful than he’s seen her as of late.
We now see Tsubaki running, sprinting in the streets. Tsubaki couldn’t get it out of her mind since that day she met Hananoi. At first she was embarrassed that her skills were so lowly compared to that of a pro, but moreso than the embarrassment, her desire to learn was much more strong. She realized only after Hananoi told her that she isn’t cut out to be a hairstylist if she can’t even convince her parents to go this route. She wanted to always find something that she was extremely passionate about, like Kyouta is with his space studies. But try as she might, she couldn’t find such a subject…Because she already had a passion from a long time ago. She realizes that to make her dreams come true, she has to squeeze out every bit of willpower she has. Tsubaki bursts into Salon Parfait and pleads to Hananoi to allow her to become a stylist!
Tsubaki asks Hananoi if the part-time position is still open…Then we see her bowing her head as she leaves the salon.
Hananoi and the salon manager see her off, then the manager tells Hananoi that he’s really pushing it with this one, as they don’t even need another part-timer and they’re forcibly taking her on. The manager goes on to mention how in the recent magazine model-gig, they had another model already lined up, but Hananoi came in at the last minute and requested a change to Tsubaki. Hananoi laughs and says, “For some reason I’m drawn to her…Maybe it’s because she’s interesting…At any rate, I want to keep her by my side.”
And that’s it! Quite a jam-packed chapter and this really foreshadows some jealous-Kyouta moments to come soon! I’m sure now with Tsubaki starting her part-time job at Salon Parfait, Hananoi will become more and more entangled in her affairs. Also, the 12th volume of KKWH comes out on 6/24, so definitely grab yourself a copy as the cover is so beautiful (although, caveat emptor, as this volume will be quite depressing to read).
